Reading the Job Card: Rooms, Coats, Sheen, Colors and Prep
The job card is the painter's work order. It should answer every question they would otherwise call the office about.
The First Line
“Living Room · Hallway · Trim · 640 sq ft · Interior · 2 coats · Eggshell · Drywall.” The areas, size, scope, coats, sheen and surface on one line.
The Colors
Under it, the brand and color codes: “Sherwin-Williams Agreeable Gray SW 7029; trim Extra White SW 7006.” Painters load the right cans in the morning.
The Prep
“Prep: Patch & Spackle, Mask & Cover, Move Furniture.” The painter knows what was sold.
Access and Past Notes
The lockbox code, the dogs, where to park and HOA approval. Past notes from earlier jobs at the house show too.
Office Notes
The office can add a note for the day: “Customer picked the colors from the sample boards. Ceilings stay.”
