Scheduling Multi-Day Painting Jobs Without Losing the Rest of the Week

A whole-house interior, an exterior repaint or a kitchen of cabinets can take a crew three to five days. The schedule has to show that, or the office will book another job on Wednesday for a crew that is still at the first house.

Book Every Day the Job Takes

Book a visit for each day of the job on the crew's schedule. The board then shows the crew busy Monday through Thursday, and anyone looking knows they free up Friday.

Same Details Every Day

Each visit shows the same job details, so the painter on day three sees the same rooms, colors and prep as day one.

Estimate Days Honestly

Estimate days from square feet, coats and prep, not optimism. Cabinet jobs need dry time between coats. Exteriors need dry days.

When a Job Runs Long

Jobs run over. When they do, move the next job a day on the board and text that customer. Doing it on Tuesday afternoon is far better than a no-show Thursday morning.

Tell the Customer the Plan

The estimate notes and the night-before text should tell the customer how many days to expect and when the crew arrives each morning.

Use the Checklist to Track Progress

The painting checklist shows where the crew is: prep done, first coat, second coat. The office can see progress without calling.
